With all of the changes that are going to be happening in our lives, one of the things we're wanting to do is be healthy and lose weight. And lets face it...here in the Britton family...we LOVE good food. But the thought of eating healthy has been a bit scary to us because we don't want to give up the food we love. But going about it we have discovered that we have absolutely NO REASON to fear it.
I have come across an amazing line of recipes called Hungry Girl. Lisa Lillien, creator of Hungry Girl, has so many recipes of amazingly yummy low fat, low calorie food done right. Like anything...it's all a matter of personal taste but most everything we've tried so far we've loved. When we try new recipes (that we LOVE) I'll be posting them on here to share with all of our family and friends so we can all eat yummy food and be healthy too!!! That being said I'll share a recipe today:
HG's Sloppy Janes
1 Lb raw extra lean ground turkey
5 small, light hamburger buns
1/2 cup chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped red bell peppers
1 cup canned tomato sauce
3/4 cup canned no-salt-added tomato sauce
2 tbps. tomato paste
1 1/2 tbsp. Splenda No Calorie Sweenener (granulated)
1 tbsp. red wine vinegar
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. dry steak seasoning blen
dash salt
Spray a large pan with nonstick spray, and bring to medium-high heat. Add turkey to the pan. Spread the meat around in the pan to break it up a bit.
In a small dish, combine Splenda, salt and steak seasoning. Sprinkle this mixture ove the meat, and continue to stir meat in the pan. Once the meat has browned, reduce heat to medium.
Add onions, peppers, Worcestershire sauce and vinegar to the pan. Stir, and then continue to cook for 5 minutes.
Add tomato sauces and paste to the pan and stir well. Reduce heat to low, and cook the mixture for an additional 5 minutes.
Toast the buns, if desired. Put 1/5th of the mixture on each bottom bun, and then finish off with tops of the buns.
